A Mesh Day

Untitled

AAAAhhhhhhh....the first time you can get out the bikes in your mesh jacket is so liberating! We didn't have to bundle up with thermals, sweaters, gators, solid jackets, and the whatnot.  The freedom of not feeling like StayPuft the Marshmallow man.  No worries about getting chilled out and making sure you have extra layers.  Just basking in the spare room in the gear.  And this is our 3 weeks of spring where the temps are perfect, the humidity is non-existent, and the pollen is low.  Trifecta!

It averaged about 80 degrees (F) and we headed to Juliette, GA.  This was only the 3rd visit this year.  We hadn't been there in years, the food wasn't terribly thrilling. But they either changed owners, got a new cook, or both, because the food is spectacular!!  So yes, that is becoming one of my favorite destinations for an RTE and there are so many nice routes to boot.  Last month our trip home saw us spending a couple miles on dirt roads (as I finally found the Enduro setting on the GS that loosens the throttle response).

We sat on the porch for a few minutes after eating.  Just letting everything settle and freeing up the table for another in the line on the 45 minute wait list.  Saw the bike my brother drools over.

Can this be believed??  We are actually letting go of some horses and clearing a space in the barn?  Unheard of!!  We've finally made the decision to release the pent up horses in the Honda XL600R and send it to a new and better home where it will get more attention.

XL600R

I couldn't kick start the darn thing and hadn't yet gotten used to the height.  So peace be with her and hope that she gets more love and road time.

  1. 80°F already! At that rate the riding season will be over in another month…

I thought that Hondas always started. First time every time.

    1. Technically, I don't think we really had a winter. You might be right with that prediction. I have a feeling it is going to be a HOT summer.

As for THIS Honda, I just never learned the trick of a kickstart. Figured it wasn't a good bike for me if Oilburner had to start it every single time. haha

  2. Ah, stop it Lori. I am green with envy. We are back to freezing temps and a nasty snow-rain mix.

    1. Oh no! More sleet and snow. I hope that at least means I some beautiful flowers in a couple months! Don't be jealous of these temps. Remember the 100+ and 98% humidity that we will be getting in another 3 weeks... :)

  3. So jealous of your temperatures. I am still chilly at 50 degrees and we woke to 32 degrees yesterday morning. We typically see 2 weeks of nice weather in February but instead, this year we broke rain records.

Clearing space in the garage can be dangerous. Any plans to fill it back up?

    1. Oh yeah. I know what you are going through. We had a couple weeks of those with temps going to 70 then dropping to 40 with sleet a couple days later. The warm temps will be here before you know it. I hope this summer is less rain for you though!! So you can get out and enjoy the roads.

No plans to backfill!! As we evaluate everything, also thinking about releasing the R1200R as well. :( Haven't pulled the trigger on that plan yet. Scary.

  4. My gear is mesh, in winter it just means a windproof jacket underneath and probably a layer or two more....michelin man indeed at times but not too bad.

We're having incredibly warm and sunny weather here....not sure we'll get any more snow before Mother's Day, the traditional weekend after which one turns on the lawn sprinklers.

    1. Ok...what is your secret getting through winter with mesh and a mere "windproof jacket" underneath?!? I need to learn that. I typically forget the Gerbing and need to layer, but still have the solid riding jacket. So cold last week it was silks, thermals, sweater, solid jacket AND put the rain gear on over all once on the road.

There's something going on with the weather. We've had some violent storms, but a mild winter. Sounds like you've had snow storms, but an overall mild winter. I'm hoping this doesn't forebode a bad summer.

  5. Its all about layers...thin but warm layers. Long underwear of course for when below 20F. Heated grips, leg shields on the rig, a windshield and grip covers.

    1. You just plain rock, my friend. I still haven't gotten that nuance down to the appropriate science.

  6. Mesh...ohhhh sweet mesh!
Keep that warm weather there please, I'll be in that area in a few weeks hoping to check Key West off my bucket list.

  7. Will do my best!! When and where are you coming through Georgia? Would love to try and meet up on your way through! And jealous, as Key West is in mine also. So how many US corners will this make? Are you headed to New England next?

    1. I'll leave Chapel Hill N.C. on May 21st and follow the google map route to Key West. Not the best motor route, but I need to be back up into Panama City, Florida by May 25th... So that part of the journey will be a pedal to the medal kind of thing. This is the first corner of the US...someday I may get the other. :)
