All work...

...and no play makes for no fun riding.

Some people like to think they are integral at work; that work will not function without them. I am NOT one of those people. I prefer to teach everyone my duties, so that I can leave for vacation and be able to let work go completely. But sometimes you are integral if people just aren't qualified or prepared enough.

That just means that I have been working way too many hours, shirking my wifely duties of household chores like cooking and cleaning. (Who am I kidding, those don't get done even when I'm not working an ungodly amount of hours.) And no riding...

The weather hasn't exactly been conducive to riding. The last two days we've been getting snow flurries from the grey clouds scuttling by. Nothing that sticks. Just keeps it darn cold.

Oilburner and I did manage a ride a couple weeks ago. But no pictures means no proof. :) That's ok. It was without destination, meaning that we ended up seeking roads that our tires had never seen before. It was laid back and relaxing and kept us sane for a little while.

Time is just blurring by... Grab it while you can.

  1. Trips without destination are sometimes the best kind. Our trip at the beginning of the month was like that, we knew where we were flying into and out of, and had one destination in the middle but the rest was sort of done on the fly. We were looking for warm weather and found it in Savannah.

I like the photo of train, especially since the engine looks like it's going faster than the cars.

    1. I completely agree. The trips with no map can lead to some interesting places. That was exactly how we felt. So calm and relaxed, not trying to make a destination.

I'm so glad that you found your warm weather! Savannah is so intriguing. Wish we could have met up and let you meet Oilburner. Next time.

That train is one that I'm foiled by on my commute every often. I usually try and count the cars. hehe

    2. I thought about it but it seemed like a long way to Atlanta especially when we decided to go to Tybee before heading back north.

    3. No worries. I was up to my eyeballs in work. If I had been on top of my blog reading I might have tried to catch you. Otherwise, I wasn't going to intrude on your vacation. And Tybee is more enjoyable than Atlanta, IMHO.

  2. Lori:

At least you are working long hours during the best season for working. I know, you are saving your riding for the warmer weather, I hope that your work projects are completed by then

I am looking forward to the day where I can ride unfamiliar roads too. In the meantime I hope you can sneak in a ride or two to relieve some of your work stress

    1. Good way of looking at it Bob. I hope this doesn't continue into the good riding weather. Otherwise I will have to quit my job. :)

I'm hoping this weekend will allow a little opportunity. Dodging rain.

One thing on new roads, I must say that we do take geography into account when we daydreaming of moving. As much as we LOVE the coast...it really hinders the riding area! hehe

  4. Here's hoping the snow will melt, the sun will come out and you and Oilburner will be burning up two wheels before long.

    Nice photo too!!

    1. Remember the saying, if you don't like the weather, wait 15 minutes. So the sun is out today. Woke up to 29F, but supposed to reach 64F today. Fingers crossed it will be warm this weekend. :)

  5. Personally I hate being integral at work. That means you never get a break, and you are on call even on vacation. Been there done that, don't want to do that again ;-)

I haven't been recording any of small rides and errands lately, too busy with life stuff...

    Spring is definitely overdue!

    1. I couldn't agree with you more. I do not want to be called while on vacation. Live without me is my motto.

I'm glad that you are getting out. And for you, that doesn't just mean riding. You've been on some lovely walks and outings.

Here's to Spring coming soon and lasting a very long time!

  6. Dear Steel Cupcake:

I used to work with a woman who once told me, "This place will replace you as soon as they can find a chimp who can type." She was right. They did. That is the problem working at a place that does not value your talent.

By the way, the chimp quit two weeks later.

I love trains. Neat picture. Get more.

    Fondest regards,

    1. Dear Jack,

There is reference to my job as "Monkey Button Pusher". I had signs made up and posted around my cube one time. If they think it is so easy, they can do it. :)

I'll try to find more trains. It's just that I'm usually trying to outrun them.
