That's What I'm Talking About

TAAA-DAAAA!!

hugger_install_10

Installation was super easy!

I bribed Mr. Oilburner to do it.  :)

hugger_install_01
Actually pulled the "specialized" tool roll out.
hugger_install_02
Remove bolt holding exhaust.

hugger_install_03
Remove rim

hugger_install_05
GASP!  Remove Final Drive bolts!

hugger_install_06
Oxygen, Stat!!       Final Drive bolts out!

hugger_install_07
Preview.  The wheel may be missing, but it's looking pretty darn good.

hugger_install_08
OOOOOOOO!!!!

hugger_install_09
AAAAAAAA!

hugger_install_11
Ssmmooookkkiiinnnnn'!

Addendum:

hugger_install_12

There is actually quite a gap between the hugger and tire.  (Ignore the flat topping on my tire...)  And the hugger is mounted on the swing arm.  Therefore it bounces with the tire.  No chance of them hitting...unless something penetrates the tire.  Knock on wood...

  1. Very pretty!!! Actually your bike looks very nice, I was in the local BMW shop this afternoon having a we browse, and I did think of you. I am very keen to get a second bike, but just not sure on which direction to go.

Now I just hope the weather has improved for you to get out there and enjoy it.

  3. When I saw the photo in your last post, I didn't have any idea what it was supposed to be. I had to look at you're Flickr Photostream to see where the part fit. Looks way too functional to be a farkle. And it looks like you had great weather for a test ride. ;-)

OOOO, AAAHHH. Is this supposed to keep dirt and grim off your shock ? It almost looks as if your tire is very close and may rub

  5. Looks sharp! Especially where the light highlights the carbon fiber. Nice!

Why does your bike look so clean, shiny and perfect and mine like a wrinkled old pork sausage?

  7. Very cool! Looks great and I'm sure it will do its job perfectly, it's amazing that something that looks ordinary, quite ugly, looks so good when it's in place.

  8. Actually it is very well done and will probably work well unless it rubs your tire on a bump
    Good luck.
How do you keep the bike so clean?

  9. Gives a nice look to the back of the bike :-) It's a beautiful bike.

  10. Hi Roger!

Browsing the BMW's...drinking the kool aid... :) Any direction that puts you on two wheels is a good direction.

Projections state the weather might reach the 60's on Sunday. ;)

  11. Hi Richard!

No, No. You were right. It is a teeny bit farklish because of the carbon fibre. I could have gone with a plastic one. Blech. Hehehe.

  12. Hi Bobskoot!

That is exatly its intended purpose. I've added an addendum to the post to show you the spacing between hugger and tire. The average distance is about 3/4 of an inch. There isn't any way for the tire to hit as the hugger is mounted to the swingarm with the tire. So it moves with the tire.

Thanks for perpetuating my oooo'ing and aaahhh'ing! :)

  14. Hi Nikos,

How does a bike look like a wrinkled old pork sausage?

Ride fast enough and the dirt doesn't stick...

Would you be depressed to learn that I haven't washed my bike in about 6 months and that I have ridden it in the rain? The bike's color just lends itself to hiding dirt. Good thing there isn't much chrome on this thing. :)

I need pictures of your wrinkled old pork sausage alongside your spotted dick. ;)

  15. Hi Rider!

Ugly?? You thought it was ugly?? hmmmm.... :( LOL. Yes, it is awkward standing alone. I do like it on the bike because it is so subtle.

I don't think it will fit on an RT though. ;)

  16. Hi Baron!

Thank You! I like the lines. And the yellow Ohlin's reflect nicely in the carbon fibre cross-hatch. :)

The bike remains clean by riding faster than the dirt can catch me. ;)

  17. Hi George!

Do you think my carbon fibre makes my tire look fat?? hehehe.

  18. It looks, well... sexy. I really like your bike, and would consider it as one possible option to look at once I am ready to upgrade.

  19. LOL Only a motorcyclist would say "OOOOOO" and "AHHHHH" over a fender!

    It does look AWWWWWWWESOME!

  20. I must say it looks very nice on the bike. It doesn't look like a toupee at all anymore.

    Bribed? Hmmmm . . .

  21. Yep, a great Valentine's present. Mr Oilburner played his part as well. Good all round then!

  22. Dear Steel Cupcake:

Well that's cool as all getout! And yes, this does qualify as" riding farkle." It lookls great! It's extremely functional. And it's mechanically sophisticated. I too would have gotten the "willies" as the final drive bolts came out.

    Good luck with this.

  23. Thank You, SonjaM! I was thinking the same thing. Though I am a little biased. :) And on that note, I would definitely urge you to take one out for a spin if you ever do decide you might be in for an upgrade. It is definitely a sleeper.

  24. Hi Ken!

LOL. You are correct. Every "hobbyist" has their own fetish. We just like loud, sparkles, gadgets or power. :)

    What's yours??

    Yes, bribed... ;)

I have a fence that needs whitewashing, if you are interested.

  26. Hi Jack!

Thank You! I've done so little "customization" on this bike, I think it was about time. Mr. Oilburner says it looks solid on the bike. But I'm still kicking up little rocks at him when I lead.

Man, I didn't like to see those bolts loosening. Fingers crossed there aren't repercussions.

    Yours,

    Steel Cupcake!
